Because Silliness is Next to Godliness

Tonight, my kids and I had a super silly time dancing and singing with hundreds of other little kids.  I won’t lie, acting like a kid with lots of other kids is one of my favorite things in life.  Maybe that’s why I like my job as a Family Events Coordinator (or a mom) so much.

What was the reason for all this silliness, you may ask?  Two words: Randall Goodgame.  Our church hosted Randall’s Slugs and Bugs Live concert. It’s a one hour interactive show with live music, animated video and background musical tracks that extend through all the songs.  Randall’s website describes the concert as, “There are fun interactive moments, and also teaching moments during the program. Some of the material is ridiculously silly, and some of it is deeply meaningful and gospel centered.”

There were a few things I loved about this concert and his music:

1 – He “gets” kids, and in fact has three of his own. He intuitively knows how to talk to them, tell stories that they relate to, and teach them about Jesus in a fun, age-appropriate way.  At the same time, I felt like I was learning some ways to talk to my own kids about things like praying.

2 – The lyrics and music of his songs are catchy, creative, and, of course, silly–everything a kid will love.  But, as a parent, I enjoyed the songs, too.  I look forward to listening to our new Slugs & Bugs Under Where CD and singing with the kids in the van.

3 – As we prepared for the event this afternoon and evening, I learned that Randall is just a really great, down-to-earth guy.  He’s genuine, passionate about his music and family, and someone I’m glad we supported.

So, see that bunny I’m holding in the pic above?  People, you won’t believe this…but, I finally realized my dream of singing on stage in front of hundreds of people tonight.  Kiddding.  But, I did actually get dragged into a bit about a lost bunny and an underwear joke while singing a line or two on stage.  Here’s a quick shout out to all those families out there who didn’t get up and leave as a result.

Bottom line is that Randall Goodgame and his music are worth checking out.  Below are all three of his Slugs and Bugs CDs.  I encourage you to pick one up for you and your kids and have some super silly family time together!
