Ready for Halloween? If you plan to trick or treat like we do (or as much as you can with a 17 month old) you’ll need a bag of some sort. This may seem obvious but it didn’t occur to me until yesterday. I figured it’d be pretty easy to make a simple bag that will only be used once so I went through some of my fabric scraps and was able to come up with some materials that seemed Halloweenish.
I didn’t take pictures of exactly how I did this because honestly, I just kinda of made it up as I went and I wasn’t sure if it was going to work.
Here is my best attempt at recapping how I made it:
I started by cutting out a pumpkin shape. I glued the eyes, nose, and mouth to the pumpkin before I sewed it on to the polka-dot fabric.
I then folded the fabric in half and sewed the edge and bottom together.
After that, I folded down the top edge of the fabric about an inch to create a seam to slide some boning into. This gives the top some structure to keep it open.
Lastly, I just got some ribbon and sewed it to the inside of the bag to create a handle. As you can see, I wasn’t a perfectionist about this project. I was more about getting it done during nap time than making it perfect.
Like I said, my directions aren’t all that great because I didn’t really plan on turning this into a tutorial. I more just wanted to share the idea in case anyone needed a little last minute Trick or Treat bag inspiration.
Hopefully my little lady’s first Trick or Treating experience will be fun and memorable! I’m already foreseeing a few meltdowns when she learns that we won’t let her eat all the candy she collects.
Oh, and if you’re wondering- she is going to be a cupcake for her first Halloween. I snatched the costume up this summer at a garage sale and have been itching to see her in it. Can’t wait!
Hope you have a safe and happy Halloween!
