There’s nothing like a hot, home-cooked meal after a long day.  And in my experience as a busy mom of two small children, it’s even more enjoyable when it’s cooked by someone else!  Last month, we experienced that yet again.  At the end of a tough day, a friend dropped off dinner.  We needed to eat, but cooking was the furthest thing from my mind that afternoon.  The homemade soup, bread, and fresh cut veggies filled our bellies and warmed my heart.  It was just what we needed.

Food is a wonderful, practical way to care for people.  But coordinating meals for others in need, such as a new mom, a friend with a sick child, or a family member who is undergoing surgery can become a time-consuming task.  It can be hard as a busy mom to field emails and phone calls with questions about when to bring the meal, directions, food allergies and more.

TakeThemAMeal is a free online tool that simplifies the process of coordinating meals for those in need.  Gone are the days of using a calendar to pencil in who is bringing what on which days!  Within a matter of minutes you can create a personalized meal schedule so your time and energy can be spent caring for your loved ones instead of worrying about getting all the details straight.

Setting up a meal schedule is easy.  On the TakeThemAMeal homepage, click the “Create A Meal Schedule” button.

TakeThemAMeal also offers recipe suggestions on our site, including some of our favorites from Thriving Home!

Once you create your schedule, simply enter in the email addresses of the people you know who want to help.  TakeThemAMeal then sends an email that prompts them to pick a day, sign up and fill in what they want to take.  That way everyone on the schedule can see what other people are taking.  No more receiving five lasagnas in one week!   Here is a sample of what a schedule looks like:

TakeThemAMeal even sends a reminder email the day before the person is scheduled to take their meal to help ensure that they remember.

So the next time you hear of a friend, neighbor, co-worker, church member, or friend in need of some encouragement, consider setting up a meal schedule on TakeThemAMeal.com.  It’s free, easy, and a great way to show you care.
