I came home with a bag of peeled and chopped up apples from Apple Butter Weekend and was trying to figure out what to do with them. After poking around on a few recipes I figured I could cook them up in the crock pot and make a yummy side dish or snack.
It was incredibly easy.
I just dumped in the apples, brown sugar and cinnamon and walked away while my crock pot did the work. After a few hours I let them cool off and mushed them up into an apple sauce consistency.
- 8-10 (or more) cups of chopped up apples
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup water
- Mix apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon together and place in crock pot.
- Add one cup of water.
- Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
- *Optional: mush up the apples for a less chunky consistency
Let the apples cool completely. You can leave them more chunky in consistency or use an immersion blender to make them in to an applesauce consistency. Put apples in to freezer-safe containers and freeze for up to three months.
Thaw the apples overnight in the fridge. You can also thaw them in a bowl of water if you're in a hurry.
