DIY Nursery Decor: Trains!

Train Decoration

With a baby boy on the way in about a month, I have been working hard to get his nursery prepped and ready. Since it was previously decorated for a girl, part of this includes making changes to the room to prepare it for a boy.

I’m honestly not sure where the idea of a train banner came from but I had a vision of what I wanted and my Silhouette machine helped me get there!

I found the shapes that I wanted pretty fast and got them cut out on different colors of cardstock paper.

After that I just gathered up random craft supplies that I had around my house from other projects. With a toddler around I had to do the project in phases but I eventually got all my accessories glued on.

The challenging part was sewing the pieces together. I wanted the train to have a wavy effect but this proved to be quite difficult to achieve when running different shaped pieces of paper through a sewing machine. As you can see by my uneven lines, I wasn’t quite able to perfect this step of the process.

Luckily I’m not too much of a perfectionist or I would have thrown the project out! In retrospect, I probably would have used something more structured to attach the train pieces like pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, or some other craft supply that would do the trick. Hindsight is 20/20 right?

Anyway, I’m happy with how it turned out. As long as you don’t look too closely that is 🙂
