Snow Ice Cream Recipe (or Snow Frappuccino!)


Who knew you could make yourself a yummy frappuccino with fresh fallen snow?

Who doesn’t love those sugar-filled icy cups of frappy goodness at Starbucks, really? But, at nearly $4 a pop and a whopping 50 grams of sugar and 240 calories in each one (that’s the plain coffee ones–I’m not even counting the dolled up Mocha or Caramel Fraps), why not make your own next time it snows?

Here’s the deal. Yesterday we made Snow Ice Cream using this basic recipe. It was delicious, and my kids had fun making it with me.

And, we got to check off another activity on our Snow Day Bucket list (because the snow days just keep coming in our neck of the woods!).

But as my husband pointed out…my snow ice cream tasted like a frappuccino. So, then I tried putting some coffee in it. Sure enough, it transformed into a true snow frappuccino! And it only cost me about $.25 or something.

So send one of the kids out to the back yard to gather some clean snow. (I just gave the instructions “avoid any snow that’s yellow or brown”…and he did, I think.)

Meanwhile, grab some milk (I used whole organic milk), sugar (I used sucanot because it’s less processed and delicious), and real vanilla. Then, if you’re up for a coffee drink, throw in some leftover coffee from this morning or some instant grounds. That’s all it takes and you’ll be on your way to enjoying some vanilla snow ice cream or a frappy snow treat for cheap!

Description

Who knew you could make yourself a yummy frappuccino with fresh fallen snow? Add a little bit of milk, sugar, and coffee to that gorgeous white snow and you’ve suddenly created a delicious, tasty treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup organic whole milk
  • 1/31/2 cup sugar (I use sucanat b/c it’s less processed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon real vanilla
  • Optional: 1/4-1/2 teaspoon instant coffee or 1/4-1/2 cup cold coffee
  • 6 cups fresh snow (tip: avoid the brown or yellow snow!)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together milk, sugar, vanilla (and optional coffee.)
  2. Stir in snow cup by cup.
  3. Put in the freezer for a few minutes, if you want, or enjoy right away.

Notes

Freezer Meal Instructions:

To Freeze:
Follow recipe directions as stated. Place in freezer for a short time if you would like a more solidified drink.

To Prepare:
Remove from freezer when ready to drink.
