Two Ways to Prepare Your Heart and Your Kids’ Hearts for Christmas

Last night in my church small group, a few of the members expressed their concerns about getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. I’m right there with them. While I know that the true meaning of Christmas is to reflect and celebrate the birth of Jesus, rarely do my actions reflect that.
Not only does my heart get so easily distracted in this fun season, I can see my kids doing the same thing. (I’m guessing I’m not alone when I tell you that my daughter has already formulated her Christmas wish list…)
So here’s the deal. If we are going to stand a chance against the materialistic messages of the Christmas season, we need to be proactive.
Fear not. We are here to help.
To keep things simple, we have two resources that we personally recommend–one for adults and one for your kiddos.

For the Adults
I’m super excited to dive into *Come Let Us Adore Him by Paul David Tripp. Starting on December 1st, there is a short chapter every day that pulls us into the deeper joys of Christmas. We need daily reminders about the true meaning and true story of Christmas.
For the Kids
If you can identify with struggling to keep the main thing the main thing at Christmas, imagine what your kids are facing! This is why we have created Good News of Great Joy. We want the story of Christ to captivate their hearts and attention. With our four devotionals (one a week..umm hello…totally doable), we provide an interactive way to teach about the birth of Christ.
We created this devotional with not only the kids in mind but the parents too. We’ve designed it to be easy to lead and customizable for any age ranging from 2-11.
I genuinely hope these suggestions give you some practical ideas to run with and help you to be proactive on what is shaping your heart this year. You can do it!
