Might not be the most exciting gift under the tree, but they will thank you when they leave their lights on during the school day. 5. Gel Pens Set + Blank Journals – How much fun could your tween have using this giant set of colorful gel pens? Whether it’s writing letters to friends or sketching in one of these journals, she will get her use out of them. I love these blank journals, so she can decorate the front covers.

7. Ripstick – Our whole street of boy and girl tweens ride up and down the sidewalks and driveways after school on their Ripsticks. Such great exercise and reason to get outside! The mom in me has to suggest investing in a helmet and pads, too. 😉

Rip Stick

8. Echo Dot – My kids LOVE these. They use it for music and audiobooks primarily. The Echo Dots also have games on them that the kids have fun with. What I learned after I bought them is that they can also be used as kind of a walkie talky. From my phone, I can drop into their room, make announcements, block certain songs, set time limits, and turn on explicit filter. Now truth be told, they still find songs that you may not approve of but all you have to say is, “Alexa, never play that song again.” I love these!

Echo Dot Junior

9. Colorku – My tween is obsessed with this game, but it’s really great for all ages. Instead of using numbers to solve Sudoku puzzles, Colorku uses brightly colored wooden balls. Razor scooter

14. Girls Bible: My daughter is in 4th grade and joined her first small group. I realized quickly that while we had plenty of Bibles in our home, she wanted one that was hers. This is a great option to start a little lady off with. There are more, age-appropriate Bibles from this list of Children’s Bibles or this list of Tween and Teen Bibles. Rachel’s 12-year-old daughter uses this Bible the most.

Faith girls

15. Onesie PJs – I have no idea why these are such a hit, but they are. My daughter wants to wear them even in the summer. Lot’s of different animal/color options too.

Father’s Day Gift Guide

By Rachel Tiemeyer

A good daddy deserves a good Father’s Day gift. But, dads sure are hard to buy for, aren’t they?

Every year was a struggle to find a gift my dad would like and now I have to find one that my husband will like, too! If you struggle as well, hopefully the gift ideas below will give you some tracks to run on.

Gift Ideas for Dads

2. Ninja Air Fryer

My father-in-law, a widower, uses his air fryer almost daily. Many of our readers and friends swear by theirs, as well. This one is reasonably priced, easy to clean, recommended by our readers, and has over 2,000 reviews with five stars on Amazon. MANY readers suggested biting the bullet and getting the Ninja Foodie if you’re in the market for multiple appliances in one.

3. Winc Subscription

Once a month, 3 bottles of wine are curated to your taste and delivered to your doorstep. I love gifts that keep on giving through the year! $22 off your first order. Cancel anytime.

4. AirPods

This is the “going for it” gift for the Apple product lover in your life. Scratch that: THESE are the “going for it” gift. Everyone I know who has these LOVES them.

5. Ninja Personal Blender

My husband and my dad use this blender every single day (I do, too). Super convenient, dishwasher safe, and makes single serving smoothies-to-go. Be sure to print off our free Smoothie Recipe Pack and include it in the gift to get him started.

6. ESV Study Bible

This has been one of my and my husband’s favorite Bibles of all time. For the man who loves to study and wants to learn more about the Bible, I think he will enjoy the quality of the commentary and the imitation leather binding. ESV is a similar translation to NIV but captures more of the poetic meaning in places like the Psalms (that’s my layman’s term way of describing it).

7. DEWALT 20V Max Compact Drill Driver

If you’re trying to build up his tool collection, this is one of the most useful ones he will own. One of the best drills on the market, too.

8. Chemex 8-Cup Coffee Glass Coffee Maker

Oh man, this makes good coffee. Simply pour boiling water over ground coffee and you have some delicious brew on your hands.

9. Beer Glasses (Freezable)

Perfect for summertime! Pull these glasses out from the freezer when you’re ready to have a beer-30.

10. What I Love About Dad Book

Having young kids fill out questionnaires about their parents is one of the best gifts in life. They serve as a memorable, thoughtful gift that can be looked back on with fondness for YEARS. I just bought this book for my kids to fill out. I’m excited to see what they say!

11. Rapid Car Charger

If you’ve ever been in the car and argued about whose battery was lower, you need this. Charges up to 5 phones (not just iPhones!) at a time, twice as fast. We very much needed this on our most recent road trip!

12. Electric Fly Swatter

One of those things that sounds a little lame at first, but in reality, would be widely used around the house. I think my husband is going to have way too much fun with this. Over 7k reviews too!

13. Blink Security Cameras (Indoor or Outdoor)

Easy to install and a great price. If your man is looking to beef up security a bit, these might be a great option. They can work with a screen Alexa device, 2 year battery life, two-way talk, live view, and motion recording. Free cloud storage – Keep hundreds of clips stored up to a year with no monthly fees or service contract required.

More Ideas:

  • Digital Meat Thermometer – For the grilling guru. A great price!
  • Snag a golf gift card or some concert, theater, or sporting event tickets for an “experience” gift.
  • Buy his favorite beverages (and maybe even wrap them individually). My friend, Jon, mentioned to me that you can buy what’s supposedly the world’s best beer here.
  • A gift card to his favorite restaurant.
  • A subscription to The Athletic for ad-free online sports news

1. Essential Oils Diffuser with a few essentials oils

After learning more about the mood-enhancing effects that essential oils can have, I figure it can’t hurt to have some Lavender Essential Oils (calming and relaxing) or Lemon Essential Oils (energizing and uplifting) diffusing in my house at all times. Ahhhh….

2. J.Crew Cheetah Print Slippers

I’m wearing these as I draft this post! Not only are they cute and comfortable but they have held up super well. I LOVE them!

3. Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

I (Polly) just finished this book and it was such a great read while stuck in quarantine! I wanted a novel to get lost in but that wouldn’t stress me out. This fit the bill. Here is a short description of it from Amazon:

“A striking and surprising debut novel from an exhilarating new voice, Such a Fun Age is a page-turning and big-hearted story about race and privilege, set around a young black babysitter, her well-intentioned employer, and a surprising connection that threatens to undo them both.”

4. Super Cozy Blanket

Every mama needs a cozy blanket to snuggle up in while reading a great book or Netflixing it. My daughter has this exact blanket and I find myself stealing it often.

5. Les Mills On Demand Membership

Forget an expensive gym membership. Polly and I use Les Mills On Demand at home! For only $12.99/month you have access to 800+ of the world’s best workouts anywhere, anytime. Highly recommend!

6. Live Succulents

There are few objects in my house that bring me more joy than my succulent plants. Let me tell you, I CANNOT kill these suckers even though I’ve forgotten to water them for long stretches. Any mom will love these low maintenance, cute little house plants.

7. From Freezer to Cooker by Polly Conner and Rachel Tiemeyer

Written by moms, for moms. This cookbook will give the gift of family meals AND saved time by learning how to utilize your freezer more. Every recipe works in both the slow cooker AND the Instant Pot. (Your mom may also like From Freezer to Table.)

8. Yeti Coffee Mug

I use this coffee mug DAILY. It keeps my coffee warm much much much longer than the average mug which is much needed on busy mornings!

9. Plush Robe

I know, I know. This is the most cliché Mother’s Day gift ever. But, it’s on my personal list and I think other moms would appreciate a comfortable robe to throw on in the mornings.

10. What I Love About Mom Book

I personally love little gifts like this from my kids. Younger kids answer short questions about their moms, capturing their thoughts and perspective about you. It’s something to keep and cherish now and later on.

11. Patio String Lights

It’s the perfect time of year to sit on the porch and enjoy the weather. I am asking for these trendy Edison bulb lights this year, because I want to turn our deck into a fun evening space.

12. Pique Tea

We have both been Pique Tea drinkers for a while. A great gift for a mom, grandmother, teacher, or someone who enjoys creature comforts. The ease of use and packaging are top notch. Plus, it’s hard to find a healthier/cleaner brand of tea than this one.

13. Chemex 8-Cup Coffee Glass Coffee Maker

Oh man, this makes good coffee. Simply pour boiling water over ground coffee and you have some delicious brew on your hands.

14. Winc

Once a month, three bottles of wine are curated to your taste and delivered to your doorstep. This is a fun gift that keeps on giving through the year!

Gift Ideas for a 5 Year Old Boy

By Polly Conner

collage image of gifts for preschool boyMy Ty-Guy turned five a few weeks ago. Looking back at his birth story, I am flooded memories from that day and totally sound cliche when I say that it went so fast.

Long days, short years. Another cliche but oh-so-true statement.

As with every birthday that comes, I find myself surfing the internet for gift ideas. Since I’m pretty sure I’m not alone when it comes to the birthday gift scramble, I thought I’d create a roundup of great gift ideas for five year old boys. Read more

Anyway, we are gearing up for a birthday celebration and I’ve been browsing around for gift ideas. I thought it might be helpful to put all of my ideas in one place for any other parents of two-year-old-to-be’s out there. I actually did a post similar to this in the past but this one has lots of new ideas and is a bit more geared towards boys.

Most of these ideas have been recommended by seasoned parents. A few we already have but I thought were worth including because they’ve been such a hit in our home. Read more
