Easy Craft Idea for Toddlers

Looking for a cheap and easy craft idea to do with the kiddos?
Here is one that even a non-crafty person can easily do. Simply use painters tape to create a shape or word and then let your kiddo go to town with painting all over it. The messier the better!
On this particular day, we wanted to make something for daddy to welcome him home after a long day. What better way to welcome him home than with a huge sign, right? 🙂
I wish I had thinner painters tape but I had to go with what I had which was 1 inch wide tape. I did my best to draw out D-A-D with pieces of tape.
I then secured it to the deck outside (Tip- DO THIS OUTSIDE if you have a two year old or younger!) and told my little lady to paint all over the letters.
She loved it!
To add interest, I had different sizes of brushes and different colors of paint. She was of course intrigued by the idea of painting her own skin too. As you can see in the picture, her little brother joined the painting party too.
Anyway, with a little help, she got most of the picture and her body covered in various colors and amounts of paint.
At this point, I would recommend removing the tape from the paper. I think I left mine on there a little too long because it became a little hard to peel off. Lesson learned.
Peel off the tape and you have a perfectly imperfect piece of customized art!
Hang it up and hang it with pride!
This could be a great kid idea to use in the future for homemade gifts, for the holidays or just something to do on a rainy day!
Would construction paper work
Yep, should work fine!
What kind of paper did you use?
I’d recommend using something a bit thicker than typical printing paper. It makes the painters tape easier to pull off.
You could always cut the tape to size or even cut designs into the sides of the tape 🙂
great idea! Getting out the paint today!
Will duct tape work?
No, duct tape won’t work. You need tape that can easily peel off.
What type of paint did you use?
Non-toxic acrylic paint (but washable poster paint would work). You’ll want to cover the table and have your child wear a smock or old clothes. 🙂
