Fruit Pizza Cookies are a great dessert idea for groups of people. Each person has a blast customizing their sugar cookie topped with their pick of fresh fruit. Use our cream cheese frosting to make it extra decadent.
Why You’ll Love this Recipe
- It’s a fun twist on fruit pizza. I even prefer Fruit Pizza Cookies more than the big ol’ fruit pizza because they can be customized.
- Perfect recipe for groups of people. I recently had them out at our Super Bowl party of 20+ people and we still had leftovers.
- They are customizable. Each person can pick and choose what goes on their fruit pizza cookie. Some even chose to forego the fruit and just have the cookie with frosting!
- It’s an easy dessert to prep ahead of time. That way you won’t find yourself bogged down with prepping these while people are in your home.

Polly’s Tips for Success
- You can prep all of the ingredients in advance and then just set them out when it’s time to eat them.
- When rolling out the dough balls, it will feel like they are big. This is ok. You want room for fruit topping.
- You can mix all the fruit together or you can keep it separate. If serving at a gathering, I recommend keeping the fruit separate so guests can customize.
- Use any leftover fruit in a smoothie the next day!
- If you’re short on time, just buy sugar cookies from the store.
What Ingredients Do You Need for Fruit Pizza Cookies?
There are three primary ingredients you need for a fruit pizza cookie.
1. The Sugar Cookie
You can make your own cookies with our recipe below or buy sugar cookies from your bakery. Either will work!
2. The Cream Cheese Frosting
I tested vanilla frosting and it was just a bit too sweet. Cream cheese frosting is the perfect ingredient to balance all of that out. Similar to our Chocolate Buttercream Frosting, this one comes together SO easily with just a few ingredients.
3. Diced Fruit
Perhaps the most important ingredient in fruit pizza cookies: the fruit! Be sure the fruit is chopped up small enough to sprinkle onto a cookie.
Here are some fruits that work well:
- Kiwi
- Blueberries
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Peaches
- Blackberries
If you end up with extra fruit, bonus! Simply freeze it and use it in any of our delicious smoothie recipes.
FAQs
No. You can use any frosting of your choice. I think the cream cheese flavor goes best with them though.
Yes, any type of sugar cookie will work.
All ingredients can be prepped and stored in airtight containers in advance. I’d recommend storing the fruit separately so they don’t blend into each other.
The cookies and frosting will freeze just fine. However, the fruit will lose it’s texture so I don’t recommend freezing that.
Our recipe will make about 2 cups. This is about the right amount for 20ish cookies.
Fruit Pizza Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting
Ingredients
Cookie Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frosting Ingredients:
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Fruit:
- 4 cups diced fresh fruit of any kind (The more colorful the better!)
Instructions
Bake the Cookies
- For the cookies, preheat oven to 375°F. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Whisk together.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes). Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until dough begins to come together.
- Roll rounded large walnut sized amounts of dough into balls and place on cookie sheet.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are set and lightly golden. Let stand on cookie sheet 2 minutes before moving to wire racks to cool completely.
Prepare the Frosting
- To prepare the frosting, mix the cream cheese and butter together in a medium bowl until smooth and creamy. Add vanilla.
- Gradually add the confectioner’s sugar until frosting reaches desired consistency. Store in refrigerator until ready to use.
Assemble the Fruit Pizza Cookies
- After cookies have cooled, they are ready to assemble.
- Spread 1-2 tablespoons of frosting on your cookie.
- Top with 2-3 tablespoons of diced fruit.
Notes/Tips
- When rolling out the dough, err on the side of making them larger. You want large cookies so you have space to add toppings on.
- If you are making this for a party, I’d recommend making an example and setting it on display so people know what to do.
- You can use large sugar cookies to give more room for decorating.
- Cookies can be prepped and frozen ahead of time.
- Be sure to chop the fruit into small pieces.

made for a baby shower and everyone loved them! had to bake them for about 14 minutes tho
Hi Hannah. So glad everyone loved them. The thickness of the cookie, your altitude, and other factors can affect baking time for sure. Thanks for letting others know what worked for you.
They came out perfect! I just added a little yellow food coloring to frosting for a pop. Thank you!
Great to hear. Thanks so much for the feedback!
Just made these. Delicious. First of all it’s a great cookie all on its own. Kuddos. Secondly, my recommendation would be if you’re making fruit pizzas to make them much larger than described, so bigger than a walnut. 😉 I cut the frosting recipe in half and had plenty for a full recipe of cookies. Made them for teacher appreciation, I was proud to serve them. Also, I pressed apricot preserves through a sieve, mixed with a bit of water and brushed over the finished pizzas, added some shine to them. Highly recommend this recipe.
Thanks for the review and suggestions, Mom24. So glad you liked them!
No salt?
Another idea for the frosting (also works as a fruit dip) is 8 oz. cream cheese mixed with a jar of marshmallow crème. SO delicious!
Yum!
I was looking for a fun idea for my daughter’s graduation party (I always just buy an ice cream cake). I didn’t taste it ahead of time and I was hoping it would be great and this recipe did not disappoint. I made 1 & 1/2 x the recipe and it made about 32 cookies (no need to increase the frosting recipe). We used fresh peaches, blueberries, raspberries, and kiwi. They were so delicious, especially the peaches. Everyone kept going back for more and I was worried I would run out. I even had one for breakfast this morning. Definitely a crowd pleaser — my extended family said this should be a tradition from now on! Thanks!
Yeah! Love hearing that!
I love making fruit pizzas. I use a graham cracker or an oatmeal cobbler crust and use yogurt as my “frosting” and then pile it high with fruits. The kids love it and I love the healthy aspect of it.
Wondering how many calories a cookie and 1 Tbsp frosting would be?
I love this idea and have decided to do this for a bridal shower. Do you have any idea how many cookies your frosting recipe covers? I need to make enough for 100 cookies and really don’t have a clue how many batches of frosting I should do. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I haven’t made this in about a year but from what I remember there was lots of icing leftover from my batch of 24. If I were you, I would double the batch. That should be plenty!
Thank you so much!
What a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing!
