Before and Afters of my New Home

I love taking before and after shots. As we’ve been plowing through the house projects at our new home, I’ve managed to keep my camera handy and snap some shots of the progress. Here is a rundown of some of the things we’ve been up to!
Entry Way:
Put in hardwood floors, updated light fixture and changed some of the decor. I’m sure the decorating will be continually changing for the next few months but here is what it looks like now.
Wall:
This is an attempt to capture the part of the wall we knocked out in order to open up the house more. The opening allows you to see the living room from the kitchen. It really changed the look and feel of the whole house.
Living Room:
You can’t see it in the after picture but we updated the fan which changed the whole look of the room. We also mounted the TV which was quite a task! I plan to paint the mantle – not sure what color yet though. Any ideas? The curtains were exactly what I was looking for and I found them at Kohls (thank you Black Friday sales!). I wanted a material that was transparent so it would let light in but I wanted a pop of color too. We are LOVING our gas fireplace.
I love the way the dining room turned out. The dark hardwood floors, adding a chair rail, and updating the light fixture made a huge difference. After we got the brass light fixture down I told my husband that our dining room just got 15 years younger.
Backyard:
We added a deck and fence. This was the biggest investment we made in all of our renovations. As you can see we still have the screened in porch but now a deck wraps around it. We are outside people who love to host so this was a must. We added the fence so our doggies could run around.
Master Bedroom:
It’s amazing what an updated fan and new paint color can do for a room, yes? We didn’t do that much except for that but this room looks so much more updated! Curtains came from Kohls too. Kitchen:
We did a TON of work in the kitchen. We painted the cabinets, added hardware, added crown molding to the tops of the cabinets, updated the light fixtures, and recessed the fridge (although it’s not pushed all the way back in the picture).
Boys Bedroom:
My husband installed some wainscoting in this room. I think it turned out great. We originally planned to keep the green color but later changed our minds and ended up going with a blue. So glad we did!
Girls Bedroom:
This green seriously hurt my eyes. At night it felt like it was penetrating your soul. OK so that’s a bit dramatic but it had to go. The pictures don’t capture the new color well but it is now a lovely shade of light gray. I didn’t bother to clean up my gal’s room before the picture either so the “after” may not be as impressive as it was. We plan to update the fan in this room soon too.
Bathroom:
This bathroom needed help. It was a yucky purple with a huge brass fixture and outdated decor. I still plan to stain the oak an espresso color but the changes we made turned out pretty good. We added a chair rail all the way around and then just painted everything white below that. It made the bathroom seem so much cleaner! We just updated the light fixture last night but I haven’t gotten pictures of it yet.
