How I Pulled Off a Graduation Party for My Son
Planning a graduation party is such a special way to celebrate your graduateโbut letโs be honest, it can also feel overwhelming. I pulled off a high school graduation party for my oldest son last spring with some other families, so I know what it takes.

Between guests coming and going, kids grabbing food at all hours, and wanting things to feel festive and easyโฆyou need food that works hard for you. Thatโs where this graduation party food list and my tips come in.
Make-Ahead Tips for Stress-Free Hosting
First, let’s talk about how to pull it all together without the last-minute chaos…
- Prep ahead whenever possible. Many of these recipes below can be made earlier in the dayโor even frozen ahead of time.
- Use slow cookers. They keep food warm and free up oven space.
- Go disposable (no shame!). Save yourself the cleanup and focus on your people.
- Set out food in waves. This keeps everything fresh and prevents overcrowding the table.
- Recruit help. I highly recommend recruiting other families to help. ๐ We divided up the tasks, like decorating, reserving the space, set up and clean up, and preparing or buying the food.
- Take shortcuts. We bought popcorn in very large bags at the movie theater for a very reasonable price, as well as, cookie cakes from our local grocery store.
Now, on to the graduation food!
