Ingredients
You only need two ingredients to make Mummy Dogs.
- Hot dogs – I like to get uncured hotdogs from ButcherBox. Any type will work for this recipe though.
- Crescent Rolls – To make it easy, I get the canned dough from the store. However, you could use the crescent roll dough from our Ham and Cheese Crescent Roll recipe, if you want a healthier alternative. Just keep in mind, that dough recipe will make A LOT so buy a lot of hot dogs!
How to Make Mummy Hot Dogs
When you see how easy Mummy Dogs are to make, they will be come a regular around Halloween. I make them every year along with our Stovetop Chili or Cheeseburger Soup.
Prep the Hot Dogs
Slice the bottom of a hotdog open to create legs. Now carefully cut each side of the hotdog to make arms. Use a paring knife to do this.
Next, unroll the crescent dough and slice it into thin strips. Again, a sharp paring knife is helpful for this step.
Wrap the Hot Dogs
Use the crescent roll to wrap up the “body” and “legs” of the hot dog, making sure the “arms” are out and not tucked under the dough. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just be gentle with the dough so it doesn’t rip.
Repeat the process until all of the hot dogs are wrapped.
Bake the Mummy Dogs
Because we’re using crescent rolls from a can, you will need to look at the baking instructions from the brand you purchased.
The baking instructions tend to vary brand to brand.
Bake according to those instructions or until the mummies are getting brown and crisp. For reference, mine was done in about 12 minutes.
FAQs
Yes, you can use various types of dough to make mummy hotdogs. Common options include biscuit dough or puff pastry. My hunch is pizza dough would work well too. Each type of dough will give the mummy hotdogs a slightly different texture and flavor.
If you have leftover mummy hotdogs, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days. To reheat, you can use a microwave or oven until they are heated through. I like to then put mine in the toaster oven for a few minutes to crisp up the dough a bit.
Since it’s likely being made around Halloween, consider serving it with a cozy soup like our Crockpot Taco Soup, Pumpkin Chili, or Crockpot White Chicken Chili.

Notes/Tips
Homemade Crescent Rolls: If you want a healthier alternative to store-bought dough, try the crescent roll dough from our Ham and Cheese Crescent Roll recipe. Just keep in mind, that dough recipe will make A LOT so buy a lot of hot dogs!
Healthier Hotdogs: We get uncured hotdogs with no additives from ButcherBox, our favorite meat subscription company.
Storing & Reheating Leftovers: If you have leftover mummy hotdogs, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days. To reheat, you can use a microwave or oven until they are heated through. I like to then put mine in the toaster oven for a few minutes to crisp up the dough a bit.

I need to prep these for a late morning gathering. Do you think it would be ok to cut and wrap them up the night before, and then bake them the next morning?
Carla from Thriving Home says
Hi Kathryn! I have not prepped ahead on these, but it seems like it would work. Please let us know how they turn out if you do.
